Not long ago we had an interview with Gangga and we would like to share his story with you, so all of us can learn and be inspired by it.
Gangga is an illustrator. Mostly he works as an illustrator, although he can do others such as graphic design and branding. However, recently he started to learn to become a non-commercial artist although he is still a beginner; still has a lot to learn, as he said. Nevertheless, the main point of his career path is that he likes art.
And the story begins…
“I must say it’s okay to be who I am. I like to create my illustration with the touch of childlike which is fun, pure, innocent, carefree, and cheerful.”
What is your typical day like?
When I still live with my parents, I just work, work, and work. I never think about other stuff except working. But now I live by myself, I started to learn how to manage my time between working, house course, and personal life.
How does your personality reflect in your work?
I’m in the confusion zone actually because I always create my illustration with the essence of cartoon-like. Painting or illustration tends to be heavy or serious in Indonesia, so even if you draw a figure, you must draw exactly like that. This situation makes me think of my creation will be accepted here or not. After taking a break, I must say it’s okay to be who I am. I like to create my illustration with the touch of childlike which is fun, pure, innocent, carefree, and cheerful.
If you had to start over, would you choose a different path in your career?
I don’t think so, but if I could turn back time I want to study more or gain more knowledge. I want to study business to help my design study background. I want to be a decision-maker as well as an illustrator. The business background will add more value in terms of me as an illustrator.
What fictional character do you wish you could meet/be?
I want to be a Ratatouille because he is passionate about what he does or likes. In this story, he likes to cook, so I want to take the essence of it by doing what I like even though people around you are against it. If I want to meet a fictional character, I want to meet Totoro because he is mysterious and it intrigues me.
What is your favorite color? Does this color describe you as a person?
I like colors that relate to nature such as light blue and yellow. But my main favorite color is black because black is simple, humble, but still dominant.
What personality trait has gotten you in the most trouble?
I’m easily distracted and a bit perfectionist especially about my work. Now I tend to accept the mistake and learn from it. If it is related to the work project, I need to compromise with myself, can I do it or not. In the end, I try to learn my limits in terms of working.
This interview relates to our PANGGUNG collection, so we give a template for Gangga to fill it up. Gangga chose Abeng personality and here is the result:
